The Canal du Centre
a distillation of Burgundy
This canal, narrow and sinuous, stretches for 112 km and provides a picturesque trail linking Saône and Loire that takes in the EuroVelo6 route. Still partially in use, since its construction at the end of the XVIII century it has contributed to the economic rise of the Montceau-les-Mines mining basin. Its itinerary takes you through the vineyards of the Côte Chalonnaise and the Côte de Beaune and into the heart of the green prairies of the Charolais that are dedicated to cattle farming. In terms of culture, be sure to stop at Paray-le-Monial, a focal point for Romanesque art and pilgrimage, before setting off to admire the superb 234 m long water bridge that connects the Loire to Digoin!
